Knowledge on pain physiology is crucial for effective pain management1:
- Chronic pain is multifactorial in nature. Therefore, decisions for pain management should be driven mainly by the underlying mechanisms and not only by pain intensity.
- Treatment discontinuation due to limitations of the drugs used is often a problem.
- There is limited awareness of the physiological differences between nociceptive and neuropathic pain and the range of specific pharmacological options available.
Improving this knowledge could lead to better treatment decisions and therefore increase the quality of life of severe chronic pain patients.
CHANGE PAIN is committed to improve patient outcomes by developing solutions for daily practice.
PAIN EDUCATION is a new educational programme focusing on the insights resulting from the discussions of the International CHANGE PAIN Advisory Panel.
