This module provides a basic knowledge on pain physiology and pathophysiology of pain mechanisms. The differences between nociceptive and neuropathic pain are included together with a consideration of typical pain syndromes. The mechanisms of pain (including the sensitization process), choosing a drug based on this understanding, and the rationale for drug combinations are outlined. The module also looks at hands on practice using patient cases to illu strate individualized treatment plans.
